Maintenance of electrical appliances

Pots boil, grease stains, spills happen in every kitchen and you have a dirty stove. How to treat the problem depends on the type of stove you have. But there is one rule that applies to each type: solve the problem as quickly as possible. The longer the mess on your hob, the more difficult it is to remove it.

There are three basic types of home cooking stoves: electric coils, gas hobs, and smooth ceramic glass surfaces. If you have a new stovetop, take the time to read the manufacturer's recommendations for surface cleaning and maintenance.

How often is the hob cleaned
Cooking mess should be cleaned up immediately. But every hob must be cleaned at least weekly to prevent the build-up of grease and residue.

What you will need
Equipment / tools
Sink or large bucket
Spongy with soft and scrub side
Microfiber cloth
Spray bottle
Plastic scraper
Blade scraper
Dishwashing liquid with grease cutter
Commercial ceramic hob cleaner (optional)
baking soda
Distilled white vinegar

Tips for cleaning a ceramic glass hob
These are the specific steps to follow if you have a smooth glass hob in your kitchen.

Turn off the stove and cool it down
Make sure all controls are turned off and the burner is completely cool before attempting to clean the surface.

Mix the cleaning solution
Fill a bowl with two cups of hot water and 1/2 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid that contains a degreaser.

Apply the detergent
If you are using a liquid dishwashing solution, dip a sponge into the solution and wring it out a little. Working in circles, wipe the entire burner surface with the most abrasive side of the sponge. For areas where the food was cooked, leave the solution on the surface for several minutes to help ease the mess.

If you are using a commercial stove cleaner, follow the directions on the product label.

Wipe off the cleaning solution
After cleaning, dip the sponge into fresh water and wipe off the soap solution and any loose residue.

Treat stains that are difficult to remove
If there are still areas with burnt food, you will need to give them more attention. Sprinkle the messy area with white distilled vinegar and sprinkle it with baking soda (it'll froth!). Cover the area with a hot damp kitchen towel, then wring it out. Leave the towel on the stove for at least 15 minutes, then wipe it with a clean cloth to remove the dirt.
